how to setup facebook business manager (1)

Correctly setting up your Facebook business manager account is one of the most important things that business owners should do at the beginning of their digital journey. I can’t tell you how many times I heard horror stories about lost Facebook pages with thousands of followers and ad accounts with long historical data. Protect yourself from bitter ex-employes and ex-advertising agencies that used to have the only access to your Facebook assets.

It is a fairly easy process that does not require extensive Facebook knowledge. Your fully set up Facebook Business Manager account should contain:

  1. Access to your business’s Facebook page
  2. Access to your ad account
  3. Facebook pixel
  4. A product catalog (if you have an e-commerce business)
  5. Verified domain

How to create Facebook Business Manager?

First of all, you should know that one Facebook user can create only one Facebook Business Manager account.
To set up a new Facebook Business Manager account:

  1. Go to
  2. Fill in the pop-up table, and that’s it!

If for some reason, you have already created a Business Manager account for some past project that did not work out, you can simply rename your business manager:
1. Just go to
2. From the left menu bar select Business Info
3. Press the edit button in the corner and insert your new Business Manager’s name. To be true, this business manager’s name will not appear in any public resources or ads. It will be only visible for your business partners such as your advertising agency so it could be your name and surname or any other word combination. For clarity, we still recommend using your actual Business Name for all your Facebook assets, if possible.

If you have created a new Facebook Business Manager account, you have to verify your business. Without verification, you won’t be able to advertise on the platform. These are the new Facebook policy changes that rolled out after the scandals of the previous years. Yes, you will be able to set up ads without business verification, but Facebook will be able to freeze all your assets without prior notice. Believe me, usually, it happens at the most inconvenient time.

To verify your account:

  1. You need to navigate to business settings
  2. From the left side menu go to Security Center
  3. Enter your business details and click Next.
  4. Select the appropriate business from the list or pick None of these fit if your business is not shown. If you pick the “None of these match” option, ignore steps 3-5 and upload official documents to complete the verification process.
  5. Select a phone number that you have access to from the dropdown menu and click Next. Or chose to verify your domain by getting an email with a verification code.
  6. Insert your verification code and click Submit.

You may need to wait for verification and we recommend choosing verification by phone because in some instances verification email does not come for a whole day and once you close the browser window, you need a new verification code.

If you don’t have an existing ad account in the 4th step choose to Create A New Ad Account option and fill out the pop-up form. We recommend choosing your business name as your ad account name. It is very important to choose currency and time zone correctly since you won’t be to edit them later.

How to create a Facebook product catalog?

The product catalog is important if you have an e-commerce business. With it, you can create a shop on your Facebook page, add a shop section in your Instagram account, and show those best performing dynamic prospecting and remarketing ads.

To create your catalog:

  1. Go to business settings
  2. From the left side menu choose Data Sources and then Catalogs.

  4. Connect Catalog with your pixel
  5. To fill up your catalog go to Catalog Manager

How to verify your domain?

To avoid misuse of your domain, domain verification also allows you to regulate editing rights over your links and content. This applies to both free and paid content. Managing your ad link editing permissions also ensures that your brand is represented by only trusted colleagues and partners.

  1. Navigate to the Brand Safety section in the Business Manager’s Settings page left side menu
  2. Click on the “Domains” section
  3. Press the blue “Add” button and insert your domain URL
  4. Choose one of three verification methods and verify it according to the given instructions

Again, you must do this through your Business Manager since this Business Manager will have the authority over these domains. If some other party does through their Business Manager you might get stranded without the chance to use your business domain.

How to give asset access to your advertising agency?

If you need to collaborate with other businesses such as an advertising or creative agency you need to provide them with access to your Facebook ad account, pixel ant other assets. In order to do that you need to add them as your business partners:

  1. Go to business settings
  2. From the left side menu choose Users and then Partners.
  3. Click blue +Add button
  4. Select Give partner access to your assets option
  5. Insert your agencies Business ID (if they don’t have one I would be concerned if they are real professionals)
  6. Select assets that you want to share with them and the access level that they need to do their job.

How to add other people to your business manager?

Usually, you don’t work alone and have different employees that also need access to your Facebook assets. Maybe they are managing your page or ad account or maybe the accountant needs your billing statements from Facebook. If you need to give permissions to work with your Facebook account, simply:

  1. Go to business settings
  2. From the left side menu choose Users and then People.
  3. Press the blue Add button
  4. Insert any email that the person you want to add has access to (it could be work or personal email, later they still will be required to login with their personal Facebook account).
  5. Select assets you want to share with them and the administrative level.
  6. Press the blue Invite button.
  7. Since Facebook invites usually get lost we recommend pressing a Resend button, copying the generated link, and sending it to the person directly.

If you will set up your Business Manager correctly it will save you a lot of stress and time while talking with your advertising agency or managing tasks with employees. If you still don’t have access to your Facebook page, pixel, or ad account we recommend asking the third party to share these accounts with your Business Manager account with Admin rights. And remember if you ever get lost between all the accounts, start with business settings. It’s a central hub from which you can manage and edit all accounts.
